Toronto police made a historic cocaine bust, seizing 835 kg linked to a Mexican cartel, impacting drug prices and networks.
Toronto: So, you won’t believe what just happened! The Toronto Police just announced a massive cocaine bust, the biggest in their history. We’re talking about 835 kilograms of the stuff, worth around $83 million. Can you imagine?
This all went down during a lengthy investigation called Project Castillo. It seems like they really hit a nerve with a notorious Mexican drug cartel. The police say this seizure has even caused a spike in cocaine prices because of a sudden shortage. Wild, right?
According to the police, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel is behind these huge shipments. They found the drugs in stash houses and even at the Canada-U.S. border. The biggest haul? A whopping 475 kilograms discovered in a truck that came all the way from Mexico.
It all started last August when the police got a tip about cocaine being shipped in the Greater Toronto Area. They tracked an 18-wheeler coming from Mexico and asked the border services to stop it when it crossed into Canada. And guess what? They found the drugs!
After that, they got search warrants and uncovered even more cocaine in stash houses. The impact has been huge. The street price of cocaine in Canada has shot up by 20% since the bust. Talk about a ripple effect!
Six suspects are now in custody, described as high-level distributors, while three others are still on the run. The police are taking this seriously, and they’re determined to keep the streets safer.
Chief Demkiw emphasized that getting these drugs off the streets is crucial for preventing violence and protecting lives. It’s all about teamwork and dedication from the police and their partners. What a story!
